Troop Four June 2007 White Adventure Update

Date and Time Reminders: We will meet at St. Mary’s parish center at 8:00 AM on Saturday, June 23 and leave by about 9:00 AM for our campsite at The Forks, Maine. We will return for pick up at the parish center by 4:00 PM on Monday, June 25.

Personal Gear: Each scout should pack all personal gear and personal food (snacks) in their backpacks or have all personal gear firmly attached to their packs. One small additional item (oversize sleeping bag, campstool, etc.) per scout is also allowed. If a scout does not have a backpack, a duffel bag is fine to use. New scouts should review the personal gear checklist in their BSA handbooks and check out the lists on the Troop 4 website. Be sure to bring lots of insect repellant and sunscreen. Adults need to bring personal sleeping/eating/camping gear. The troop will provide all adults with tents and food for the meals that will be cooked at the campsite. All patrol food and cooking supplies will be packed in patrol coolers before we leave for the trip.

Special Gear for the Whitewater: Each scout and adult needs to bring the following for the whitewater portion of the trip – bathing suit or shorts, old shirt, footwear (old light sneakers or Teva style sandals), towel, dry clothes and footwear to change into after the trip. Wool/fleece/polypropylene works best if you can have it. No jeans to wear on the whitewater and try to avoid cotton clothing. The outfitter does have wetsuits (included in the price we paid) for anyone who wants one.

Scouts and adults who use epi-pens and inhalers have to bring them on the whitewater - they will be stored in a waterproof container on each raft.

Food for the Trip: All scouts and adults need to bring $ for Saturday lunch (stop on the way up) and Monday lunch (stop on the way back). We will be stopping at fast food places.

Scouts will be cooking patrol style for Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, Sunday dinner, and Monday breakfast. The planning has been completed by the scouts for the meals. Scout should check with their patrol leaders for their food and cleaning supply assignments.

The troop will be cooking for all the adults. We will be contacting the adults for the supplies that they need to bring.

Outfitter Release Forms; are required for all participants, scouts must have theirs signed by a parent. Copies will be at the Court of Honor or at the parish center on Saturday June 23. The outfitter will not allow anyone to raft without one.

A Few Changes From the Last Newsletter: Sunday lunch is a BBQ provided by the outfitter after we finish rafting! Also, the climbing wall will be Sunday night instead of Saturday night.

$ Due: Any $ still due for the trip can be brought to the Court of Honor on Thursday June 14 or mailed to the troop treasurer, Judy Alley at 7 Paula Road in Milford. Please make checks payable to Troop 4.

Please call or email Dave Kirchner at 508-478-5915 / if you have any questions. See you there!!!
