Scout Sunday – February 4, 2018

Troop 4 will celebrate Scout Sunday with a procession at Saint Mary of the Assumption on February 4, 2018, at the 10:30 a.m. Mass.   All Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from the Town of Milford, irrespective of faith, are invited to

participate and to join in the procession in uniform & with their respective flags.  Following Mass, parishioners, scouts and their families are invited for light refreshments in the small hall.  During this time we hope to share some of your experiences in the scouting program.   Photographs and photo albums are welcome.

The Scout Sunday tradition was started to make people in church aware of Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out parts of what they pledge each week.  The Scout Law says that a “Scout is reverent” and the Scout Oath asks scouts of all ages to promise to do their “Duty to God”. The Boy Scouts of America celebrates the founding of the Boy Scout program annually on February 8th. Scout Sunday was added to the scout celebration around the mid-1940’s. Scout Sunday is celebrated annually the Sunday preceding February 8th, unless the 8th is a Sunday, in which case the 8th would be Scout Sunday.

Please make your best effort to attend.  We truly are privileged to have had many years of generous support from Saint Mary’s parish community.  A large showing at this event will convey our sincere appreciation for all that we have received and will provide an opportunity to interact with and tell our story to those who continue to support us.

Scouts and their leaders should gather in the small hall of the parish center, in uniform with their Troop flags by 10:00 a.m.   Please be aware that there are two Scout Sunday events occurring this year.  Troop 2 also is hosting an event at Sacred Heart.

For more information please contact Nancy Ahrens at (508) 404-6677.  RSVPs are requested so we can reserve seating at Saint Mary’s.  Please contact Ms. Ahrens as well if you would like to contribute to the light refreshments.
