The annual NH Winter Weekend is almost upon us. This year we will camp at the AMC Lonesome Lake Hut located in Franconia Notch State Park. http://www.outdoors.org/lodging/huts/lonesome/ No Tents needed! The hike up is 1.5 miles. Bring snowshoes if you have them and don’t forget your sled! Intense sledding is the main feature of this trip. For safety, scouts must bring a ski helmet or sport helmet.

All scouts will meet at 8:30 AM at the Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish Center on Friday, February 19th for a 9:00 AM departure. Scouts will return from the event for pickup at the Parish Center at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 20th.

While no tents are required, scouts should bring their full complement of winter camping gear (see website checklist), including sleeping pad and sleeping bag.

All scouts should eat breakfast before they depart, as there will be no meal stop on the ride up north. All scouts should bring a bag lunch for Friday. We’ll be able to use the Hut’s gas stove for our gourmet menu. The Hut will allow us to use their pots and pans for cooking. We’ll stop for a fast food lunch on the ride home.

Meal planning will be done by scouts at the January 28th troop meeting. Remember, as with all camping trips, if you sign up to go, and something comes up at the last minute, you must make arrangements to provide your assigned food items to your patrol leader.

There is a $30 fee for this camping trip to pay for the cost of the luxurious hut accommodations.

Scout permission slips and payments for this event are due no later than Tuesday, January 19th. They can be mailed or dropped off at Mr. Weber’s house. We need to enforce this deadline for this camping trip as the Troop will need to confirm numbers and make its payment the following day.
